I own 6 crossbows from four different manufacturers the fastest launches arrows confirmed by my chronograph at 405fps slowest at 366fps
I have taken literally 1000s of shots from 10 yards to 80 yards
Shooting from a seated position where I can make for a rock solid support of my crossbow while shooting using hand made indexed matched custom arrows with a straightness factor of .001 or less, I can consistently maintain <3" groups at 70 yards so I know my crossbows indeed have the accuracy for at least 70 yard shots
What I came away with is there are only a very VERY few circumstances under which you should EVER attempt a shot on an animal past 50 yards and those circumstances must be #1 literally zero or near zero wind because even a 5mph crosswind will drift your arrows impact 8-10" at 70 yards and #2 where the odds that animal will remain motionless for the next 3 seconds are essentially 100% because the reality is you if are going to shoot at a deer, elk, hog etc with a crossbow beyond 50 yards the flight time of even my fastest crossbow arrow out to just 60 yards is long enough that animal can move at least half of its body length before the arrow hits resulting in gut shot animal and a very difficult tracking job
You owe it to the animal and our sport that to what ever range you will shoot at an animal with you practice as much as it takes to get absolutely deadly proficient to that range under actual hunting conditions
Contrary to uninformed beliefs crossbows DO NOT perform like rifles they don't perform anywhere near as good as even a side hammer muzzleloader which is at least 2.5-3× faster than the fastest crossbow and a ML bullet in flight is far less impacted at 100yrds and under by wind and gravity than an arrow

All time hunt with crossbow keep shots inside of 50yards or less I run older horton. As new bows push past 100 is crazy and not ethical for archery. Target maybe. New couple guys had raven crossbow couldn't get to shoot at all with groups even at 50yards. One guys said 100 was all over. I know one guy able take a deer 75yards with crossbow.
